Fedora 12-X64: Intel X3100 on Compaq C700: No Joy
 

I installed the latest distro of Fedora 12. On this little Compaq C700, it SCREAMS. However I've had 3 issues. I'll post the first issue here, and the other 2 in another post.

The F12 CD installed normally: no errors showed during installation. I also did a 'yum update' which installed more than 900 patches and updates.

The Compaq C700 has the Intel X3100 graphics driver. The installation did not detect this, and did not create an xorg.conf file. Therefore the laptop screen has defaulted to 800x600 and is nearly unusable at that resolution. The [Detect Monitors] button on the gnome-display-properties utility does not work.

I googled a bug report for F11 and this Intel device: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516759
And this was on a Compaq 610--a similar machine to mine. The person reporting the bug reports symptoms identical to mine.

1) Is there any repositories, patches or upgrades I can install to make this work?
2) Do I need to file a bug report also?
3) Can anyone point me to some resources to fix?


I really don't want to install Windows on this machine. I want Fedora 12 to work.
