Question Fedora 11 upgrade hanging on reboot

Hello all.

After upgrading from Fedora 10 to 11, the system hangs on reboot. It has never actually made it to the login screen since the upgrade, and it gets stuck on the screen with the "F" inside a bubble. Once the "F" is fully loaded, the system locks up and becomes totally unresponsive to all input, including ctrl+alt+del. If I press an arrow key before it gets to this point, it does load the text version so I can see what is going on, however it still freezes at the same point. This point is after the following output:

.....
Starting cups: [ OK ]
Starting acpi daemon: [ OK ]
Starting HAL daemon:

After about 10min it finally moves on and loads more things, stopping again at:

Starting Avahi daemon . . . [ FAILED ]
Registering binary handler for Windows applications: [ OK ]

Here it sits stuck forever.

Reinstall a(nd) reboot, some how you have derailed the install of the kerenel

Check the iso with the md5 check sum, and verify the burn to disk.

Regards Glenn

Hi c0mmandr,

failure of avahi seems to be selinux issue as atleast mentioned for other fedora releases,

Boot you Fedora11 into single user mode and execute the following

#chcon -t system_dbusd_exec_t /bin/dbus-daemon

or you can disable SElinux as a last resort , by changing

SELINUX=disabled

in this file /etc/sysconfig/selinux.

and if the above dose not work . Just reinstall. I have NEVER had a "upgrade" work correctly, and have been using fedora since fedora 4 .

Thumbs up

Thank you all for your suggestions. After failed attempts to boot in Single mode and boot with selinux disabled, I am downloading the DVD .iso to reinstall. Your help was greatly appreciated.
