Fedora 10 removable device issues with default runlevel as 3

I prefer having the default runlevel for all my Fedora installations as 3. Hence, after I completed installation of 10 yesterday, I changed it accordingly in the /etc/inittab file.

Now the issue I face is: after I startx for the GNOME desktop, everything runs fine except for the glitch that removable devices stop appearing on desktop/getting mounted from Nautilus.

Since I suspected this had something to do with DBus, I tried checking for DBus daemons one by one with each of the runlevels as default. Here were the results:

ps aux | grep dbus at runlevel 5 (everything working nicely):
Code:
dbus 1932 0.4 0.0 30052 1744 ? Ssl 09:20 0:00 dbus-daemon --system
gdm 2475 0.0 0.0 21612 704 ? S 09:20 0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session
krkhan 2607 0.0 0.0 21612 704 ? S 09:20 0:00 dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session
krkhan 2616 0.1 0.0 29924 1592 ? Ssl 09:20 0:00 /bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 7 --print-address 9 --session
krkhan 3141 0.0 0.0 84996 820 pts/0 S+ 09:22 0:00 grep dbus
ps aux | grep dbus at runlevel 3 (removable devices not appearing on desktop):
Code:
dbus 1935 0.1 0.0 29988 1788 ? Ssl 09:23 0:01 dbus-daemon --system
krkhan 4638 0.1 0.0 29912 1612 ? Ssl 09:34 0:00 /bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session
krkhan 4639 0.0 0.0 21612 700 ? S 09:34 0:00 dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session
krkhan 5134 0.0 0.0 84996 820 pts/0 S+ 09:35 0:00 grep dbus
The file descriptions for pid and address were different, so I thought I'd list them too:

ls -l /proc/2616/fd at runlevel 5 (everything working nicely):

Now I'm confused:
  • DBus daemon is running in both cases perfectly.
  • File descriptors in both cases point towards inotify and a socket.

So, in which direction should I proceed now. I'm not too familiar with HAL/DBus stuff so I'll be grateful if someone can help me fix this issue.

Well, DBus and HAL services seem to be running fine. Any other ones that I should look out for?
