Fedora 10.93 XFCE 4.6 Sound controls

I'm trying to assign keyboard shortcuts to the volume controls, but I can't seem to find and command line controls. Everywhere I have looked suggests Amixer, which I don't have. I have tried using commands with xfce4-mixer, but all commands just bring the gui up. Any help would be much appreciated,

Tom
