I currently have an PC running dual boot WinXP and FC2 utilizing GRUB. Due to the age of FC2, I am unable to find appropriate drivers which would allow FC2 to utilize integrated graphics / sound. PC is intel Celeron with 945 chipset and 82945G/GZ integrated graphics. I downloaded FC8 ISO and created DVD. I go to install and everything looks very similar to FC2 install except when X goes to load the screen goes black and nothing happens. I tried to back out with CNTL ALT BACKSPACE and I receive the following error:
Running anaconda 11.3.0.50, the Fedora system installer - please wait...
Probing for video card: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller
Attempting to start native X server
Waiting for X server to start...log located in /tmp/ramfs/X.log

X server started successfully.

mini-wm: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server: 1.0.
anaaconda: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server: 1.0.
install exited abnormally [1/1]
I have tried downloading different ISO, no joy. I have tried running the memory test since error 11 is typically a segmentation fault - all tests pass. I tried to utilize the text install but this fails as well, no readable message provided. I have searched forums on the internet for a couple of days and I have come up with nothing...any one have any ideas? Should I format the entire disk and start fresh? I checked the BIOS and there are no settings for video.
Thanks for any assistance and sorry for the long post - cya!
Hello and welcome to LQ, hope you like it here. Unfortunately for you Fedora Core 2 is obsolete, meaning there are no compelling reasons to continue (or even try) using it. If you like Fedora you are urged to install F8 (stable) or F9 (just released ...) In other words: don't bother with FC2 as resistance is futile. If that means you and Fedora part ways please choose any other current, well-maintained distribution.
A co-worker suggested a network install to possibly avoid the bad ISO image burn scenario. I was planning on taking that route next unless there are any further suggestions on why FC8 will not load from DVD. I have never done a network install prior but I heard that it is just as quick as downloading the FC8 ISO in most instances...any suggestions on what website is good to download an ISO / network install?
Thanks for the help - us noobs probably drive u guys gnuts with all these questions!
Well, last time I did an upgrade, I had to try the install several times. Sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes it would but the result was unstable, even though the md5check on the DVD was fine (you might want to try that).
Turned out my CD/DVD drive was flakey.
Popped in a new drive and 'viola' a perfect install first time

Thanks for the input - I have not given up on possible bad hardware since I took the DVD to another PC and it loaded just fine - I think Fedora is having a problem with the hardware and startiing X. Is it possible that X is starting on a VGA port instead of the integrated graphics? My next step will be to try an external monitor to determine if X is starting but due to the nature of the hardware it cannot output graphics to the monitor. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - cya!
Just an update - attached a second monitor to my PC and viola - X Windows appeared. I loaded FC8 and reboot - changed the driver to Intel i810 and my LCD screen came up. Reboot just to check - problem solved. Cya!
