FC7 - Internet Problems
 

Im dual booting XP and FC7. I'm on XP right now.

XP has all drivers installed, works fine
FC7 has all drivers installed, internet does not work.

Im not sure whats up, its the right driver, and i have it all setup, this is the first time internet hasn't worked for me on any Fedora core. Anyone got an idea?


It shows it setup, but i can't even access router :\

"internet does not work"... could you really not give more tangible information than that? you've not said anythign whatsoever about how you even physically connect to the router, let alone what the relevant makes / models / drivers are...

I'll give a bit more explanation, sorry for the bad explanation.


Anyways, What happens is that it shows driver is installed, shows up that it is infact working correctly, but its not. Everything shows connected, all settings are setup, but i can't use Pidgin, no internet browsers, and the auto update on FC7 says that im not connected to the internet so i am unable to download updates.

Im not exaclty sure whats wrong with it.

Any help would be appreciated. Im going to go back and look at it in a second.

FYI I also have the Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 12) in my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev2.0. motherboard.

I'm running FC7 (Moonshine using kernel version 2.6.22.1-41.fc7). Nothing I have found so far makes this lan chip work reliably. After a period of time, it will cause a lockup so that the cursor is stuck and you can't enter anything from the keyboard.

I solved the problem by adding a ethernet LAN PCI card made by Intel. This works without fail. I have a second similar Gigabyte MB with (I think) the same Marvel LAN chip. It works fine under Linux.

My recollection is that XP worked with using the Marvell bastard chip but I haven't booted XP in so long, I may have forgotten.

Count me in - I too have same Lan chip - Same problem.

I contacted Gigabyte. I was hoping for an upgraded bios or similar. That wasn't offered. Instead, they gave me an RMA. Trouble with that is that if I RMA the MB, I will likely receive a re-manufactured board which may have some other problem that some other hapless user gave up on. At least with this MB, I am fairly certain that this is the only current defect.

Therefore, if a software solution is not found, I think I'll just leave the PCI ethernet NIC installed and keep the Marvell bastard chip disabled in BIOS.

Also my recollection wasn't correct, The Marvell bastard chip exhibits the same identical problem when running under XP. So I conclude the source of the problem is a defect in the MB or in the LAN chip.
