Fc7 Can't Enable 3d Effects On Ge Force 6600 Gt

??? uhm... ????  already browsed the forum but don't know how to resolve this problem..  I installed fc7 64 bit on an amd 3500 with 2 gb ram,ge force 6600 gt,mb asus a8n sli deluxe, sound blaster 24 bit,3 sata hds.. i installed the latest xorg nvidia driver-100.14.11-by the packet manager but-i prefer to use kde-if i try to enable 3d effects from the gnome menu voice i get a 2 seconds screen flashing and then it tells me "couldn't load 3d effects" also beryl is not loaded at startup sabayon automatically loads 3d and beryl during boot What can i do? :study: and moreover..how could i active the 3d from kde ? Ciao |
I am not sure where the startup options are in KDE as I prefer Gnome, but you can edit the hidden file ".bash_profile" in your /home directory with any text editor and add "beryl-manager &" to it on a new line. This way it will be loaded regardless of your desktop environment.
Just to be safe, what are the beryl things you got installed? Here's mine Code:
beryl.x86_64 0.2.1-1.fc7 installed |
The startup directory in KDE is .kde/Autostart.
|
Have you tried an nVidia driver from Livna.org ?
|
the actual situation
Ciao ! i haven't installed anything else of beryl more than what was already installed 'cos my adsl router was down and went to assistance, now i have it back ok..and i didn' t install driver from livna 'cos i didn't remember the key combinations for typing the tilde...what's that combination ? now i'm going to follow your suggestions and will let you know thank you !:D |
Tilde Kombination found !
:D :D :) :) :jawa:
Eureka! I've found the manual of microsoft ms-dos 5.0 ( 1991 ! ) browsing everything in my garage and found the right keyboard layout on it : tilde in italian keyboard is ALT + 1 (from numeric pad) + 2 (from numeric pad) + 3 (from numeric pad) thank you anyway for the time you gave me ! ciao :D |
So it ended this way
Bahh...couldn't resolve the 3d effects bug neither even by the livna driver, had printer and scanner hardware recognition problems and it ended formatting fedora partitions and installing instead of fedora ubuntu studio...that gives me really no,no,no,no problems ! Thank you anyway a lot Ciao ! |

I have the Nvidia GeForce 6800 with 256MB of memory. I installed beryl on Mandriva 2007.1, Debian Testing and Fedora 7. I never got it working properly in Mandriva, works flawlessly in Debian and Fedora. The easiest one to set up was Fedora 7. I installed the nvidia drivers from Livna and issued one command to install beryl, emerald and emerald themes with yum. I didn't even have to configure /etc/X11/xorg.conf like the other two, yum took care of that also. I never install Gnome, only KDE. To get beryl to start automatically upon bootup, use an editor to create a file with the contents below and name the file "beryl.desktop", then put it in your home directory in .kde/autostart.
Code:
[Desktop Entry] |
To get beryl to autostart in Gnome, go in Desktop/Preferences/Sessions and choose the Startup Programs tab. Simply add an entry for Beryl:
Code:
beryl-manager |
...then Beryl On Knoppix 5.11
Cheers...I've installed knoppix on another pc and will try as you said to load beryl during bootup and then will let you know how it goes Ciao ! :D |
Beryl works
:)
It Works ! Cheers ! |
now works perfectly
Just as a struggle with myself,i've installed again fedora 7 64 bit, added the livna repos and download the nvidia driver from livna following the instructions, then linked beryl manager and emerald in kde/autostart et..voilà
Everything-the driver and 3d effects-work perfectly ! Bye and Cheers ! |
It doesn't work...
Hi everyone!
Simply adding "beryl-manager" in the System/Preference/Personal/Sessions autostart doesn't work. I get screwed up windows without a top frame. I have to enter beryl-manager manually every time I log in. Which file can I edit to get it to start atomatically for sure (in gnome)? all the best, |
