FC6 Shutdown Problem
 

Hi guys,
I have just discovered a new problem with my system - I can't shut it down the conventional way. The shutdown button on the gnome panel was disabled and there is no longer any shutdown option in the system menu - it has been replaced by suspend. However, if I do it from the command line with it works fine (as long as I am root). I don't want to always use this to shutdown, and if I suspend instead, then when I resume I receive an error about being unable to restart x server, and so my whole computer becomes useless. Can you please help me with this?

yea one of my boxes have a simular problem....when i click shut down it does it thing, however after it kills everything and everything has stopped, the pc never shuts off. i have to do it manually

Yes I have had this problem a few times as well, and I have read else where that it can be caused by using wine. However, the new problem that I have is that when I when to click the shutdown button that I had placed on my gnome panel, it was disabled / grayed out, and the only thing I could do with it was move it. So I deleted it, hoping to replace it and try again, but now I can't find the shutdown button anywhere in the add applet panel. Also, in the system menu of my gnome panel, the shutdown option (which used to pop up a dialog asking me to choose between shutdown, hibernate, suspend, and a couple of other options and give me sixty seconds to respond) has been replaced with an option which will only allow me to suspend my computer. However, I don't like suspending it, because often when I suspend I can't restart x-server on resume, and I lose everything that I had open.
