Smile fc6 new install upgrade and .rpmnew

Hi all

I have done a fresh install of FC6 64bit. When I then do a yum -y upgrade it had about 1000 packages to upgrade and as it was doing the upgrade there where about 30 warnings and it saying it was installing like below:

/etc/nsswitch.conf.rpmnew
/localtime.rpmnew
.........
..........
...........

The upgrade still went ahead.

What is rpmnew files and what is the process I should take to fix this problem if I actually need too.

The only other problem I had was a dependancy with something called frysk. I just did a

"yum remove frysk" and then ran
"yum -y upgrade" again and so far so good.

Look forward to any comments on this subject.

Cheers

Gimmee

Compare the two files and if desired replace the current one with the rpmnew one.

Hint:96% of the time they are the same.

Since you just did a major update it is a good idea to reboot and let at least the new kernel run.

*.rpmnew is the new *.conf package that would normally have been installed except that rpm detected an altered or customized configuration file. When it detects a customized configuration file it save the new one as *.rpmnew.

It generally best to at least take a look at it if not move your settings into it. This can be where new features show up and security features are implemented.
