FC6 GNOME + Beryl + gnome-screensaver focus issue
Hi,
My current FC6 laptop has Bery enabled on the GNOME desktop. It works like a charm with the open-source radeon driver, but I am having trouble with the screensaver... (9600 Mobility M10 card) Whenever the screensaver kicks in (either with idling or starting it by hand) I am unable to unlock the screensaver. When moving my mouse, I see the cursor, but not the unlock dialog. Sometimes, though, it DOES show the dialog... With the mouse I am able to click on the dialog, but my keystrokes get fed to the applications currently running !!... when I press alt+tab for instance, I see the applications.. and if there is a gnome-terminal with them, and I can select that... after releasing the alt key, the screensaver gets the screen blank again, but anything I type is caught to the terminal, so I can kill gnome-screensaver, restoring my screen output again... Does anyone have the same issue? Is this a bug, or a configuration issue ? Thanks in advance.. |
I am experiencing a similar issue on Fedora Core 6 with Gnome 2.16 and Beryl 1.4 as installed through the Beryl metapackage through yum. I have found that when I lock my session (via screen saver starting or otherwise), I get nothing but a black screen. I see and have control over my cursor, but cannot seem to make the password dialog appear through any combination of keyboard shortcuts. I still can however, pass my password to the dialog box and hit enter to log in. The alt-tabbing that rhoekstra mentioned does not bring up other applications. The display truly is locked, it's just that the password dialog or screen saver don't show.
A ticket has already been filed concerning this issue by Madsen at the beryl bug tracker. It can be seen at http://bugs.beryl-project.org/ticket/77. The ticket has been queued as a work in progress. It would be nice if we could figure out how to fix it in the meantime, but I am not sure what other information would be relevant to offer. I'm here if anyone wants to help and step in. |
A Fix
For people who are experiencing this problem, you might want to try going under the Beryl Settings Manager either through running 'beryl-settings', or through the panel icon. Look under the general options screen and uncheck 'Unredirect Fullscreen Windows'.
I didn't figure this out myself, mind you - I was checking up on the bug page again, and michaeljb had made the above suggestion. If he frequents this forum, I'd like to extend my thanks for posting there. |
Ohkay, This sure did it..
I don't know if this would be a 'bug' or a 'feature' but at least my screen saver does work again.. thanks, geesegaggle, for pointing it out... |
