FC6 - first boot
hi guys,
trying to install FC6, but my computer does not boot ... it crashes without reporting an error.
i physically disconeted the SATA hard disk, smartd was disabled, the memorytest (memtest86) pass without errors after one hour running, i have reintalled FC6 using its default partition layout, installation process does not report any error, the 7 CDs set pass all the integrity tests ... but my PC does not start :-(
i see the GRUB, it asks to choose windows XP or FC6, fedora starts to boot and when the smartd service is trying to start, the computer just sleeps forever. Windows XP boots without problems.
i used the rescue CD and the comand chkconfig in order to disable the smartd daemon, and now it hangs trying to start the HAL daemon. In my PC, the order is HAL daemon, and the smartd (now disabled)
i´am installing FC6 64 bits, i have a processor intel pentium D 3.4 Gb, the mother board is ASRock 775 i65G, 1 SATA hard disk and 1 IDE hard disk. SMART option as well as the SATA hard disk are disabled in the BIOS.
may somebody help me?
i wonder if it could be a hardware related problem (e.g., a TV card)?
Hector

What do you mean by "crash"? Does the computer reboot or power off or are you simply getting a blank screen?
Btw, you wouldn't happen to have an ATI 1600, would you? I experienced something similar (if not identical) with that specific card...

Don't think it crashes.
Press ctrl+alt+backspace
If you get the terminal back then it is a mismatch of the video driver. You can then reconfigure it by running "xorgconfig". On saving xorg try to kick start the GUI again with command "startx".
This happens all the time because Linux uses generic drivers. If you know the correct driver you can edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf directly.

hi guys, thanks for answers ...
- what i mean by "crash" is that i get a blank screen, without any error messages
- no ATI 1600 card installed, the mother board "ASRock 775 i65G" has its own video chipset.
- nothing happens when pressing the "ctrl+alt+backspace" keys.
i don´t know what´s going on :-(
any ideas ?
hector

which services do yo recommend to disable ?
y tried some of them but problem continues :-(
i wonder if i have a hardware conflict, for a while, just one time, the computer has allowed to make a login. Once in internet, it started a mozilla update, and after 2 or 3 minutes crashed again.
the problem continuos the same as before: blank screen when trying to start the HAL daemon (boot)
:-(
how can i see the boot log ?

here whats going on ...
i boot the computer using level 3 (got the "grub", edit the fedora cmd, edit the kernel line and changed to level 3, and boot option), and i have done the "lspci -v" linecommand as a root user ... and i got sommething i don't like:
- VGA compatible controller. Intel incoprporation 82865G integrated graphics controller (rev 02).
subsystem: ASRock Incorporation unknown device 2572
- Host Bridge. Intel incoprporation 82865G/PE/P DRAM Controller / Host-Hub Interface.
subsystem: ASRock Incorporation unknown device 2570
what means that the intel chiset 82865G is "unknown", isn't it ?
this chipset is included in a ASRock 775i65G motherboard.
what do i have to do ???
the good news is that startx works, and at the moment i am connected to internet using firefox :-)
but ... level 3
please comments and help!
