FC5 Wifi can't resolve from dhcp

Hi,

I just recently downloaded and installed Fedora Core 5 as a second operating system without any glitches, except for the fact that it didn't resolve my Wifi card. Luckily everything else went fine, including automatic detection of the second NIC (which was wired luckily), so through a bit of googling, I was able to get the module for the wireless to install and somewhat run. However, it is unable to get an ip address from the router via DHCP (it "connects" with the command dhclient ra0, it doesn't with the graphical networking client). If I assign a static address to it, it "says" that it's connected (and the light at the back is blinking), it just is unable to ping anywhere, including the router and any other machines on the network. Through some investigation (iwconfig ra0), I've noticed that it's not keeping the encryption setting on like I want it to.

So... I don't know what to do. Being a somewhat new user to Linux, I don't know what else to do at the moment. In case it helps, the card is a Linksys WMP54G v4.1 with RT61 chipset. I compiled and installed the module from RaLink's website.

The network goes as thus: [mine] - - (wireless) - - [wap] -- [router] -- [internet]

Any ideas?

If you are having problems with the encription configuration, take a look at:

man iwconfig

with iwconfig you can send config parameters to your wifi nic.

On the other hand if nothing results maybe is a problem with the driver module.

One thing you can do is to try to install your wireless nic via ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper is an api that allows you to use your wireless nic via windows drivers.

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/

Hope it helps.

Never mind, i took a look at the manpages for iwconfig and configured it as needed. It works now. But thanks anyway!
