FC5 ATI 9800: boot up error message missing fglrz.ko
I did the yum update of kernel and installation of the livna ATI drivers.
Apr 02 09:39:29 Installed: kernel.i686 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5
Apr 02 09:39:29 Installed: kmod-fglrx.i686 8.23.7-4.2.6.16_1.2080_FC5
Apr 02 09:39:44 Installed: xorg-x11-drv-fglrx.i386 8.23.7-4.lvn5
However, during boot-up I see a message stating fglrx missing fglrz.ko module.
How would I get this module installed so that the livna drivers can start? What more do I need to do to get my card working?
Right now I am stuck at low resolution with the Mesa drivers.
[Jason@LinuxBox proj8]$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.4.2)
When I try and yum it, again...
[root@LinuxBox Jason]# yum install kernel-module-fglrx-$(rpm -q --queryformat="%{version}-%{release}\n" kernel | tail -n 1)
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
livna [1/6]
updates [2/6]
core [3/6]
freshrpms [4/6]
macromedia [5/6]
extras [6/6]
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Parsing package install arguments
No Match for argument: kernel-module-fglrx-2.6.16-1.2080_FC5
Nothing to do
The drivers are installed, but not loading, it seems. I have seen lots of ATI problems, but none like this.

As root, did you run "aticonfig --initial"? This will edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file so the right driver will load...

yes
Yes I did, with no change...
[root@LinuxBox Jason]# aticonfig --initial
Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Found fglrx primary device section
Thanks for the reply. I haven't got many. I dunno if people are just tired of answering ATI driver questions, or if it is just a difficult question.
I was thinking maybe that since my system has an onboard ATI graphics card AND the AGP Radeon 9800 Pro that there might be a conflict. I will go into BIOS next reboot to check that the onboard graphics card is diabled. Though, there was never a conflict on XP.

Figured it out!
I figured it out!
I installed the non-SMP version of the drivers, instead of the correct SMP version.
Once I uninstalled and resinstalled the correct version using Applications > Add Remove Sortware, it started working.
Now my only question is, WTH does SMP mean?

SMP = Symmetric Multi-Processors
See the Linux SMP HOWTO
