FC3 up2date very slow or not working [resolved]

Hey, I'm fairly new to the linux world, but I've used a couple of different distors in my experimentation with linux. So far I've used SuSE 9.1 Pro and Mandrake 10.1, but I've never really gotten them to work properly. It would always be something not working properly, either the sound wouldn't work or the 3d acceleration wouldn't work. In any case, I found I eventually had to go back to Windows to have a nice environment (haha...) to work in. However, just recently I installed Fedora Core 3 as it seemed very bleeding edge and I was frustrated with Windows (once more). I just ran into errors once too many times and decided that I would try my utmost to get a proper linux distro up and running. Since Fedora was next on my list on distros to try, I dled the DVD iso and installed it.

Everything went smoothly (except I dont have sound yet, but I'll work on it and if I can't figure it out, I'll post back...) and i proceded to update using up2date. However it constantly froze and stopped downloading. So I opened up Firefox (which was real slow til I disabled ipv6) and found that I could modify the rhn source file to specify which mirror to download from. But try as I might, I cannot get which fields to modify with the mirror address. If anyone could point my in the right direction, I'd greatfully appreciate it.

Thanks.

I didn't read your post completely, but if it is updating your applications that you're doing, try synaptic (google for it). its a wrapper for apt, and is painless way to update
