As recommended by others on the web
modprobe snd_cs4232 said No such device. // So we know it's not a 4232
Actually I did try all of the ones in the cs423x dir with the same result.
But then I went to my hwconf file and found out it was a cs46xx. Loaded that and it didn't give me any errors.
system-config-soundcard does not find anything. hwbrowser can't see any audio device. but in my /etc/sysconfig/hwconf there is a section for my CS4610/11. lsmod sees all the relevant modules.
snd_cs46xx
snd_rawmidi
snd_seq_device
snd_ac97_codec
snd_mixer_oss
snd_pcm
snd_timer
snd
soundcore
snd_page_alloc
gmaeport
but snd_cs46xx and snd_mixer_oss are used by 0, which mean they are not used. That is the crux of the problem.
Thanks guys for your help, but the problem still remains. FC1 was still the only distro that I used that I was content with. Sound worked, networking worked with little fuss. FC2 I couldn't get networking to work, so I uninstalled it from my laptop (all the correct modules were loaded) so networking should've worked. Now to get sound in FC3 ....
