HI folks,

does anybody aroudn here know to set up postfix in a simple and
logic way telling excatly what to do. I read a lot howtos for redhat, for
BSD, for debian... but no specific for Fedora.

But I noticed, that the postfix.rpm doesn't support mysql-dbs.
We should have to rebuilt it for ourselves, or something similar.

So my question at you: Can somebody tell me in a simple way, step
by step to get my mailserver working? I just want a simple webserver
with squirrelmail webinterface. Does anyone has some good howtos
or can tell me to get along?

If you install the postfix and switch-mail packages you can run switch-mail to substitute postfix for the default mail server (sendmail).

You will then need to:

- Edit the last line of /etc/postfix/aliases to route administrative mail to a real account and then run the "newaliases" command to get postfix to update the aliases it uses from the file.

- Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf to make the postfix service accept mail for your domain. Restart the postfix service for this to take effect.

- The IMAP server supplied with FC3 is Dovecot, which will need to be installed and enabled. By default dovecot uses IMAPS. This is the hard bit: look in /usr/share/doc/dovecot-0.99.13/examples/ and edit the file dovecot-openssl.cnf, then run mkcert.sh to generate an SSL certificate for IMAPS.

- Change the firewall to allow connections.

- You then configure squirrelmail by running /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl It will use the Dovecot service to read the mailboxes.
