FC3 modem error 8

I have just done a clean install of FC3 and when dialling through the modem it says it can't - "error 8". Can anyone explain to me what this is? I had FC2 on the machine and all worked fine. Configured FC3 exactly the same way through Internet Connection Wizard.

Tried sending string to /dev/ttyS1 and it did light up, but sending a test phone number did not result in dialling sounds. Its an external V90 modem.

Can anyone suggest how to reconfigure or diagnose the problem?

Relative newbie (does anyone ever get beyond that with the CONSTANT changes!)

many thanks

Graham

Got the same problem...it used to work in FC3. Mine is a US Robotics internal PCI 56k (hardware modem). Don't know if HAL has messed me up or not, but it seems to have quit after one of the updates.

Anyone know what is going on?
