FC3 and CD problem
I had downloaded FC3 and I checked MD5 for it and it was fine.
I burned the images to 4 CDs (with writing speed 8X), and I tested by installing on many PCs (not one PC), and It was fine (I have not used tesing utility to test CDs, during these installations because I relyed on MD5, which was correct), no complain. Recently I tried to install it on my laptop latitude Dell D600, and I used the utilitiy for testing the CD (which I have not used this utility in my previous installations), and it told it failed I thought the problem with my new laptop (because I had already installed the software before on many PCs), then I tried to test it on my Desktop (not laptop), the same error message came on!!! Is there any limitation for using or installing Manadrake 10.1 ? Note: Trere is hardly any scratch on CDs |
Well, the reason for the failure is no longer an issue. FC3 does not put any restrictions on installation. If the CD's worked before and now will not boot then I would say the disk (even though has minor scratches) is damaged.
Either way. Just burn the first (bootable) Install .iso and see if it will boot. Then you'll have your answer. KC |
if u have checked for MD5 and installed on many PCs
then there is some problme with ur CD drive maybe regards |

Note however that CD's a physical media which can wear out over time and use. Since you have used these disks on many machines, they have probably worn out in some way. The wear need not be visible to be there. You could try installing anyway - in case the failure was there all along and is so minor that it dosn't actually impede installation. Otherwise, just burn another disk from the ISO (you did keep it didn't you?) |

Then I surpriesed why I have not received like this error message when I had used the same CDs before on many PCs (not one PC).!!!! Then I checked the CDs (4 of them CD1, CD2, Cd3, CD4) by using test utility, all of them gave me same error message. Quote:

ok
run that test on PCs on which u installed successfully regards |
As masand said, test the CDs on a machine that installed them successfully.
If that machine still says they're OK, then there is one other little-recognized (but well known in some circles!) potential problem -- the reader in the laptop does not 'like' the CDs you recorded to. This can also be true for writers, too. Bottom line if an installed machine still likes them: buy a different brand/color writable CDs & see if that fixes it. lol, |
