Fc3

so,suse was far too complicated,so i heaved it in favor of fc3.i need to be able to edit my inittab file, and cant make any sense of how to use any text editor.i also need to give myself permission to do so as well.
still just as crappy as suse 9.1 here,no way i have any cd player working, and i cant even open my cd drive.and yes i have system sounds, but who knows if i have any other sounds.just asmall FYI for the linux community.ALL pc's have cd drives, and ALL pc's have video cards that will need updated drivers.ALL pc's have soundcards as well.and almost EVERYBODY will play music cds on their pc.MAKE these tasks easy to do,and you can kiss bill gate's ass good bye.but no one will, you all seem to have the "i have to be a physician to go to the dr,or i have to be a mechanic to drive a car,or i need to be a farmer to eat my veggies"mentality.
you certainly HAVE NOT taken a great idea and made it better, you took a great idea and made it too complicated for the masses.
now all the init 3 and teleinit 3 commands,do not work on my pc.control-alt-f3 will get me there, but i still cant do squat.
so the rest of the FIFTEEN STEPS to install and update my 3d drivers
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ght=FC3+nvidia
may or may not work for me.i cant even get past step 2.i do know how to edit a file,i have done so in UT2004 and 2003.and all i need to do,is change a 5 to a 3,and save.i can find the file, and open the file.but i cant edit it at all.Emacs and VI are ENTIRELY too complicated to change a 5 to a 3.
i considered the su in a shell to change it,but i cant seem to find any info on how to find the ONE file i need, and then try it.i can open the right file by giving the shell this
/etc/inittab (i think that is what i did,and i could see the file listed)
there are a whole lot of other things and ways to change things to a file, but i cant find any help to change a 5 to a 3.
so i need an editor i already have in FC3,that is easy as falling off a log(remember note pad from MS?).and how can i change my permission? to r+w?

FC3 should have a number of editors. Look for Kate, Gedit, Kedit in the GUI (open them as root) or in the console, see if you have Nano installed. If you have none of these, check your install cds.
