Thanks knudfl, it worked!
Except I downloaded not the rpm but the tarball of the Oracle java after reading
that on some systems it broke things.
And I also noticed (when configuring) that in addition to Oracle java
I had 3 more versions of it:

There are 4 programs which provide 'java'.
