FC2 SBLive! problem

I just started fresh using FC2, previously using FC1 (as in i didn't updated, i reinstalled completely). Previously my sound worked fine with no problems but after installing FC2, i have no sound at all. here is some information that i have been able to gather that might be relevant:

i have 2 sound cards:
onboard: VIA Technologies; VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller; snd-via82xx

PCI: Creative Labs; SBLive! EMU10k1; snd-emu10k1

the funny thing is the VIA works and the SB does not (at all). i don't think disabling the VIA in the bios is needed since it use to work and now does not.

to test the sound i have been using the "Soundcard Detection" thing in "System Settings" and pressing "Play test sound". also it doesnt work with anything else (like xmms).

in reading previous posts from this forum i have checked the PCM and PCM2 settings, checked my volume controls to be correct and fiddled around with kmix.

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

if the test sound works what probably is your problem is something wrong with the volume controls.... i know its a stupid mistake but lots of people make them. i suggest tinkering with the volume controls in the master volume control thing (accecable by "Open Volume Control") near the volume control button in the system tray. FC2 i believe for some reason has the default volume set to zero in master volume... anwyays check that out =) hope that helps

however not even my test sound works =(

I fixed my problem, i disabled my onboard sound and reinstalled my SBLive! card and it worked fine... so im not sure if it just needed a reinstall or it was conflicting... who knows =)

I had the same problem and I solved it the following way:

I have VIA on-board sound and SBLive!5.1;
only VIA worked after FC2 installation;
in /etc/modprobe.conf I found that VIA was snd-0 and SBLive was snd-1!!! That's why I think VIA was primary sound device. I changed 0 and 1 and after reboot SBLive became my primary audio!

The only problem I have now is XMMS --- not working volume control; in Music player everything is OK.

you could have just selected the sblive to be your primary in the sound config tools.

but yea, no point in having 2 sound cards, i usually disable my onboard sound in bios and use the sblive, no conflicts.
