FC 9 Resize partition utility is bn going on for an hr

Hi,
I am trying to install FC9 on my laptop. 120 gb hdd.
I tried using installation disk utility to resize exsisting Windows partition.
But it has been an hour now , its still resizing.
Is that normal?? I know suse takes few mins.

Have I destroyed my data on windows partition?

Thanks.

Is it giving progress or status? If it is let it keep going.

I think the most time a resize took for me was probably about 1-1.5 hours for a 100GB drive.
Oddly for me resizing a Vista laptop took longer than an XP setup.

I'm sure you know this by now, but always backup first. However I should say that I've been doing this for over 8 years, I have never had a resize fail and destroy my data.

When I installed F9 on my laptop, I ended up using a Gparted CD instead of the installer:

I didn't have any thing data on it but its company's computer, it cast them ton to get it re-imaged.

I waited for an hr then restarted computer thinking that every thing must be destroyed. But Luckily Window did hhd scan/chdisk etc and it started.

Now I am going to re-size it using opensuse live cd and then install FC on it.

Opensuse is good in way that they usually deliver what they promise.
But I need redhat thingie for my work so I have to go with FC.

Thanks for you in put guys!!

Thats strange about opensuse taking 5 minutes...
A resize using Gparted, depending on the number of steps, can take a couple of hours on a 80 gb drive...(let alone a near full 500gb)...
If you move a partition as well as resize and add a new partition, it can take a long time, I am waiting for gparted to finish on a clients pc, it may take another 30 mins yet and has been going for 2 hours...it has 6 steps to complete, (a pain doing more than three but such is life)...
Rather than stopping something that is still progressing, go make a cuppa and put a movie on...Some times these things take time, especially if data is stored on the backend of a partition...
Patience is a virtue, use it...
