FC 6 boot failure hp zd7000

I am a slackware user since 94 and have some background using Redhat, but have never tried fedora since RH went enterprise... so w/ fedora core 6 I decided I would give it a shot on my laptop which is a HP pavilion zd7000 series. Install seemed to go fine. Boot up is failing.

First I noticed: ACPI issues and cputiming etc...

so I passed linux acpi=off and those probs at boot were gone. Still just would lock up at boot. But also am noticing Mounting Local filesystem: [failed]

So I booted runlevel 1 with passing acpi=off. It booted, but the kernel panics and system locks very shortly after. Which makes me believe any and all of the problems are kernel panics.

I also tried "Interactive" and it also locks up while going through this process. Never at any particular part of bootup.

This is disheartening and I needed this for a demo at work. I could install (and have succesfully) Slackware 11 again, but the idea of Fedora being user friendly for my office people is part of why I was installing Fedora.

Any suggestions or anyone have simliar experiences on a an HP pavilion and FC 5 or 6?

Thanks.

ok for some reason passing enforcing=0 to the kernel and it boots!

now to figure why? I don't even know what that does!

ok so I got it and learned something about fedora and something called selinux that I never used in slackware...

I used reiserfs on /davhda4 which was also my /home directory and I was attempting to save it when switching over to fc6 cause it has a ton of stuff. But the system would not boot... until chris in another thread suggested enforcing=off which turns off selinux and it booted right up.

So I am backing my /home up and gonna format it in with something other then reiserfs ... and go from there.
