FC 5 - Make pppd persistant

Just updated to FC 5 and cannot make my dialup Internet connections persistant. When FC 5 starts it gives the usual message that it could not activate the dialup network connection. It is active just not connected which is OK. When we connect for the first time after startup the system dials out as it should. Once the connection is dropped it will not dial out again.

I have tried the Modem Dialup Configuration settings:
* Dial Mode: auto
* Restart if connection dies
* PPPD Options: persist

None of these get me back to what used to work in FC 4. What do I need to do to get the system to reconnect each time I "ask" for the connection? Not just the first time.
