My install has been unbearably stable, too. They really should do something about that.

Not so SSLLOOWW any more thanks to any Ocker

Hi
I followed the suggestion that I do a Fresh Install and not just upgrade it works real well now.
If Govts could work a well as LinuxQuestions KR and JK would be best drinking buddies

Thanks guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one having a hard time of it.

I really thought I was onto something. I tried to play a DVD in Xine and it couldn't find DeCSS. My delight was short-lived - Xine picked up libdvdcss2 as soon as the rpm was installed. I watched Casino and drank strong continental lager - time I would normally have spent yum'ing in -devel rpms in the hope of getting a clean Xine compile.

There is hope, though. I've got a RedHat 7.2 Publishers' Edition CD here and I am not afraid to use it. The golden age of Linux is in that un-labelled CD-R in the cracked CD case with no lid at the back of the drawer. Yes, people, sleepless nights of compiler errors, dodgy drivers, and endless rpm dependencies /can/ be ours again.
