/etc/profile in Gnome of Fedora 8

I found that any of my customized settings in /etc/profile won't get loaded in Gnome after logging in from GDM in Fedora 8. Anything wrong? Thanks!

Is your terminal making your shell source /etc/profile?

Oh, I found out that the /etc/profile gets executed during logging. BUT the line:

source "some other source file"
or
. "some other source file"

won't get executed.

Even if I put them into $HOME/.bash_profile, the result was the same. However it got executed when it appears in /etc/bashrc or $HOME/.bashrc.

WHY??? Can't figure out what's going wrong.

Neither can I. My entries in home_profile work just fine so it's unlikely that it is a bug . I'm sure you're aware that profile and bashrc work differently: profile gets read in only once, when logging in. Have you tried logging out first after making your changes to .bash_profile?

I did an interesting experiment that I logged in through either GDM locally or SSH remotely. The line "source /etc/alias" or ". /etc/alias" in /etc/profile always get executed in remote logging, but they are ignored in GDM logging. But Fedora 7 is totally fine. So I don't know why this happens.
