error on boot. ata failed to respond

I get the following errors when booting up,

ata3 failed to respond (30sec)
ata4 failed to respond (30sec)

I have two questions:

1) does it matter that ata 3 & 4 failed to respond? The machine boots up into FC3 fine (more or less - except for sound card prob but that is another post).

2) Can I speed up booting so that it no longer tries to access ata3 and ata4, if so where or how do I do this?
bash: alsaconf: command not found
