Error informing the kernel about modification to partition /dev/hda3

I downloaded FC4, sum sh1 was ok, Media test was ok.

I tried to install on Desktop and laptop, I received this error message:

"Error informing the kernel about modification to partition /dev/hda3- Device or resource busy. This means Linux won’t know about any changes you made to /dev/hda3 until you reboot – so you should not mount it or use it in any way before rebooting".

Note: /dev/hda3 in my case is root (/).

I found many links for same error message.

And does the installation hang there, or does it continue?

I can reach up to the process of "Begin installation", and it hang there. Some time I received that error message, some time it is just hanging.

Are you using the automatic partitioning tool, or are you doing it manually? If you're doing it manually, what does your partition information look like?

Have you tried using the automatic partition feature just to see if the installation proceeds without errors?

What is your hardware setup? Are you dual-booting on both your laptop and your desktop? Are you using one hard drive on each? Or does the desktop have two drives?

Okay, now we're getting some of the information we need. Do these disks have free space? If so, how much?

My recommendation would be to use the automatic partition tool. You can choose to only remove Linux partitions, and there may be an option to leave all data untouched. Regardless, the only data that will be altered is Linux data, so your Windows installation will remain untouched (assuming the "other OS" is Windows).

That way you can check the automatica partition arrangement versus your custom one. Fedora can be a little picky with those settings.

I have used another set of CDs I borrowd form my friend FC4,,,I was able to install it on my friend's laptop,,,but I experienced one problem when I reached the screen when it says:

"Click next to begin installation of Fedors core.,,,,,,,,," I clicked botton "next",,,it did not response from the first time,,,,I thought that I have not clicked the botton,,,then I clicked second time ,,,then it started installation.

I tried with the same set of CDs that I borrowed form my friend,,,and I tried to partition automatically not custom,,,it gave me screen of "Exception Occured" with heaps of errors due to bug.
