Error in compiling the 2.4.37 Kernel
 

Hi Guys,
I m reading the Linux Device drivers 2nd edition.
In this book, author did all his work on 2nd edition, or in different words on the kernel version 2.4.37.
I have fedora core, which is already having 2.6.x kernel, but I want kernel
I have downloaded the source of kernel 2.4.37
I followed all the steps..
and everything is fine except initial ram disk, that is not getting generated.
last step was "make install"
and makes calls mkinitrd in it..
and the error i m getting that is "No dep files found for kernel 2.4.37"
just cause of this "make install is not getting success.
can anyone tell me what exactly is going on ????
this only the error in the "make install"
please guide..
or refer me to some text where i can read more about it..
