DVD burning on Fedora 1

I installed k3b on my Fedora 1 box to burn some DVDs. The problem is ,I cannot start the program. When I try to start it , I can see a hour glass (basically the system tries to start the program) but after sometimes nothing happens.I tried logging in as root and trying it too but no luck.

I am a newbie , so can anyone please help me ? Where are the log file for various application which I can see and try to fig out what is going on !

Are there any other DVD burning software besides k3b which I can use ?

Hi.

Try running 'k3b' in an xterm (or konsole, or whatever). If there's any errors, you should see them there.

Looks like I do not have k3b installed at all. I followed the instruction on k3b website and did this :

Modifedi these files
-------------------
yum - /etc/yum.conf

[xcyb-stable]name=Fedora Core 3 ( xcyborg / stable )baseurl=http://rpms.xcyb.org/fedora/3/stable/[xcyb-bleeding]name=Fedora Core 3 ( xcyborg / bleeding )baseurl=http://rpms.xcyb.org/fedora/3/bleeding/

apt - /etc/apt/sources.list

rpm http://rpms.xcyb.org/fedora/3 i386 stable bleedingrpm-src http://rpms.xcyb.org/fedora/3 i386 stable bleeding
------------------------

I then ran apt-get update and this should have installed k3b on my machine....but looks like it didn't . What else needs to be done ?

ilikejam 12-20-2004 05:22 PM

Try running 'yum update'

Didn't work..gave whole buch of server not found errors. Shouldn't apt-get update have installed it in my system ?

I'm not familiar with apt.

Try this:
http://rpmseek.com/download/http://m...l=com&nid=8184

It's a Fedora 1 rpm package.

I appreciate your help Dave!

When I try to intall rpm using rpm -Uvh , I get a dependency error. It says :

Error: Failed dependencies
libid3-3.8.so.3 is needed...

What should I do ?

I did a serch for this library and I can see it on the web. Question is : After I download this library , where should I put it ? Can you please guide me?

Ok , here is what worked for me....

I used apt-get install k3b and it pulled down all the dependent packages and installed it on my machine...I can now see k3b fine.

Thanks for your help !

I don't get it are we alowed to surf the net in root now? Why is it that when you have to do any cd burning or even play a cd you have to be root. Is Fedora Core 3 Different now some how The Internet has no effect on FC3?

Hi.

Have a look at /etc/secutiry/console.perms
You can adjust who has access to the drive devices when someone logs in on a console.

If that doesn't work, just chown <your username> the drives you want to burn on.

Thank you for your quick response, and it did work with the chown method, If however I would have rebooted for the new kernel, which of course solved my problems with the whole ball-of-wax. for the most part I catch these kind of things or can catch it in the formus. Thank You
