dualboot FC4/winXP grub doesnot respond after partitioning

I have WinXP and recently installed FC4. The filesystem on my laptop was fat32 and I was told to not change it because some of my files for my pc would not work properly. Everything was allright and Unix was able to see the hard drive that windows was installed in (as it was fat32) .I used partition magic to split the hard drive. And that was it!! When reboot.. grub was gone and so was everything else... All I have is a console of grub and lots of commands most of which i do not know how to use.
I would be really glad if i manage to boot something... anything...
My guess is that after spliting, windows were in hda2 and unix in hda7, but before spliting they were in different ones, i think (but i am not sure) that unix was in hda5.
Thanks..

It is probably easiest to boot into windows. I don't know exactly how a console of grub works, but you should try to get pass a command like:

title windows
root (hd0,1)
chainloader +1

use (hd0,0) if windows is on hda1 and (hd0,1) if it's on hda2. You get the picture. Try different commands.

If that doesn't work get a knoppix cd and install a new boot loader. knoppix runs 'live' and doesn't effect your harddrive. You should always have a live cd in case you screw up your harddrive.
Good luck!

if you read the partition magic helps there is written to backup the data before resizing or spliting of partitions becuse there is the danger of data loss, you didn't post the grub errors if some one get the solution, there is one solution of reisntalling the grub to the mbr, this wil get the new partitons map how to do it this link .
