Do I need all the cds?
To install Fedora ? I unfortunately do not have a fast connection.

Yes, but I suggest getting the DVD. If your connection is slow:
1- Get the respin-DVD; it has all the maintenance already applied, so you save downloading a gigabyte of updates after the install,
2- Contact a local LUG (Linux User Group) in your area. Most will burn a set of CDs or a DVD for you for free,
3- Ask your Linux using friends and neighbors,
4- Some public libraries will provide copies of Linux software - check with your local branch,
5- You can buy the disk(s) already burned from many places.

no, you only need based on what packages you are installing, some people use as little as 2 some use all of them.

And I used four of the CDs. What do you suggest he does when half-way through the install, it asks for a disk he doesn't have?

Good question,
what happens if the cd isn't forthcoming??? does the whole instalation fail or just that program get omited.

OK so if you don't want the default "desktop" option you'd better have all the cds.
