Did anybody recompile the default kernel of FC4?

It always went wrong while compiling the kernel. Seems as if there are something wrong with the kernel source

sounds like a makefile issue to me. I've never recompiled a kernel personally, but the way things are displaying, it sounds to me like

no rule to make target 'init/main.o', needed by 'init/built-in.o'

means that there is no rule in the makefile for main.o, so that's where you might want to look first.

Read the FC4 Release notes before you compile.

(ht tp://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc4/errata/#sn-kernel)

Compiling out-of-the-box won't work.
