Dialout/desktop

I am using GNOME for the first time and would like someone to tell me how to put an icon on my desktop or panel to dialout.
Right now I have about six steps (including going root) to make a connection.
Couldn't find anything on a search.

Do you know the commands to dialout, I can do the rest for you if you tell me that. Sory about late reply.
