Ctrl + Alt + F# does not work

I just upraded my FC5 to FC6 installed all upgrades.
Now from Gnome I cannot open a commnad line with:
Ctrl + Alt + F1(~6)

I do not have this problem before getting to xwindows(Gnome) via "Startx".

Has anything changed on FC6?
What can I do to correct this?

I use FC6 + all the updates on NVIDIA grphics card with a X86-64 kernel.

Have you tried using both sets of ctrl-alt? I noticed on my Kubuntu Edgy install that the LHS ctrl-alt works with backspace and the Fn (1-7), yet the ctrl-alt on the RHS doesn't. Strange. The Ctrl-Alt-Fn works for me in FC6, but then I have never taken notice whether I have always used any one particular combination.

As it happens I've also noticed in Windows games that the ctrl's and alt's are mapped speciffically to the left or the right.

Ok on my FC6 install any combo of Ctrl-Alt-Fn works. Have you setup your keyboard properly?

I have not knowingly changed anything since FC5.
Having said that, where would I check for this.
One thing to mention, since the first post, I tried
Code:
/sbin/mingetty tty2
from a terminal, and all I get is a 5 second pause and then the command line returns, no new terminal session.
