Converting LVM to a EXT3 partition

Is is possible to convert a LVM partition to a EXT3 partition without having to wipe the drive first?

I suspect there isn't but I want to ask first.

Thanks , BTW the system is running FC 6

LVM (Logical Volume Management) is a way of managing media, not a filesystem. Your partitions can still be formatted as ext3 (or possibly xfs or jfs or ext2 [older/boot] or something else). By means of LVM one can do nice stuff like add a new harddisk to the system and have it attached to the filesystem so that users don't see it as a separate drive, and so on. LVM should not have anything to do with having (or not having) ext3 filesystem on a partition, as far as I understand.

Thanks for the info Bouncer,

Maybe it is a ghost error then. I thought it had something to do with the LVM. Of course now I don't remember the error. But I'll try again and see what I get.

Thanks again

Mark
