Confused Kernel on FC2?

I have a kernel installed on my Fedora Core 2 system that uses 8k stacks
2.6.6-1.427.8kstacks

Now that nVidia released graphic drivers that support 4k stacks, I am really confused what the most stable, up to date kernel is and how to install it...

Sorry for the newby question but I installed the 2.6.6-1.427.8kstacks via RPM so do I need to remove the RPM kernel and then update it or how does this all work?

You could actually go in and rebuild and recompile the kernel (if you have the kernel sources installed), and there is a section to choose between 4k or 8k stacks. Rebuilding and recompiling a kernel is not really something I would recommend for newbies though. I don't suppose you can get your hands on a Fedora Core 2 kernel already pre-built for 4k stacks can you?

sorry but that seems way to complex for my newb status

Do you use APT and Synaptic for package management?

carlosinfl 07-12-2004 09:06 PM

I use the apt-get utility to install s tuff if that is what you mean...

Synaptic is a graphical package management program using APT. It
provides the same features as the apt-get command line utility with a
GUI front-end based on Gtk+

It graphically shows you all of the packages you have installed, and all that are available for your system (including kernel modules, etc).
