comments on udev and fc3

Over all I found the experience of fedora Core 3 very enjoyable, but I have some gripes with the use of udev. The size of the device files normally held in the /dev directory are insignificant unless you are running off of a thumbdrive.
I appreciate the creation of folders to mount media on, but the fact that I am strugling to us my usb zip drive due to lack of a list of sd* device drivers is sad.
What is the need to remove drivers not being used?
The change of standard from mounts being on /mnt to /media is annoying it takes longer to type and for people used to /mnt switching between distros is hard when you start using Core 3 at home.
I wish there was a way to select to not use udev. I don't need it and don't want it i can mount my own files from command line. It doesn't seem to automount from the command line so why would it be valuable on a home server.
I have not started using selinux security as I haven't found a good guide to it.

please post any replys for solutions to udev problems
I want to use a 100mb usb zip drive as well as thumb drives from the command line.
