command to minimize all the windows

we use an icon to minimize all the windows, but who knows the command of this icon, the command to minimize all windows open?

in both kde and gnome, the keyboard shortcut is ctrl+alt+D. i don't know of a command for that, but you might want to check out the doc pages for your specific desktop environment or window manager.

In gnome, clicking the Show Desktop buttton doesn't cause a seperate program to be run. It invokes code within the gnome-panel that sends a hint to the window manager (_NET_SHOWING_DESKTOP). The window manager then minimizes the windows (if it supports that hint, like metacity does).


It would be quite possible to write a seperate program to do this, but I don't happen to know of an existing one.
