Question Changing GRUB Splash Screen Not Working

I have followed some online instructions to change the GRUB boot screen from the annoying bright blue default one in Fedora Core 6. I made a .xpm image with only 14 colors, and then I gzipped it to splash.xpm.gz and put it in the /boot/grub folder. I rebooted, but there was no splash screen, it was black! What's going on? I also replaced the other default splash to another folder, so I can restore it if at all necessary.

Restore your original grub settings. There should be a file in there called /boot/grub/menu.lst

Edit that. It may not be a completely different grub screen, but at least you can change the colors!
