cdrom under fc5 no longer works after a yum update

Hello.

My computer updates Fedora Core 5 (fc5) nightly with yum.

Since a while, my cdrom stopped working (I do not know since how long). It happened probably when updating the kernel. I currently run the 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 kernel.

The problem is that the module ide_cd cannot be loaded, and as a consequence, the /dev/hdc and /dev/cdrom entries no longer exist.

I get this error message:
Code:

# modprobe ide_cd
FATAL: Error inserting ide_cd (/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2239.fc5/kernel/drivers/ide/ide-cd.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

Probably, there is some compiling error in the current kernel.

I don't know what to do. Perhaps downgrading the kernel as long as the kernel doesn't load the module ide_cd?

Thanks for giving me some pointer.
