Cant add MySQL through add/remove programs
I access it through;
system setting >> add remove applications I've tried to install a few things, and I always get an unknown error. To be exact; "Error installing packages There was an error installing packages. Exiting." Could it be becase postregsql is installed also? |
If you haven't updated your distribution yet, then that may the cause of it. The redhat-config-packages is broken, the fixes has been out for quite somtime now. Go and update your installation.
Alternatively, somebody here has suggested before (as a quick fix) to change the file /usr/share/redhat-config-packages/method.py line 733 from self.packagesDir = "RedHat/RPMS" to self.packagesDir = "Fedora/RPMS" |
I wish I had of read that *before* I re-installed everything. :(
I'll get all available updates and try installing an application. Edit: I'll post if it worked later, it's getting hung up while retrieving the updates. |
Do I need to re-compile that file after I edit it?
The up2date feature is totally screwed. It told me I needed to register my product in order to activate it, I then went through a very poor application process where I ended up making about 3 rhn id's, and got nothing accomplished. (Which I now thing I didn't even have to do) I tried to enter what I thought was the correct proxy for the up2date app, and now it can't connect to the RHN. I've also manually downloaded the file, which I can't unpack; this is the error I get; "Could not remove packages You have selected a package for removal that is depended upon by a necessary system package. The package must be unselected before removal can continue. [in a white box] System Packages redhat-config-packages [end box]" I can't figure out how to install anything, or get the up2date thing working again. (I think I smell another re-install) |
This website may be useful for you:
http://www.xades.com/proj/fedora_apt.html Anyway, I've never use RHN/up2date to get my FC1 updated. I'm using apt-get/synaptic combination. |
I visited the website and ran yum to get the updates, and it installed a few, but a lot of them were corrupt so it quit. However, it's not showing that I have a tonne of updates, it I could only get the installer to work properly.
I think I'm on the right path now though, thanks. |
It worked like a charm, the server was a bit busy, bit I got most of the updates, I'll work on the rest later.
I'll save the page and file. Hopefully by Core 2 they'll have a better update system in place. |
