Question Cannot update the nvidia kernel module!

Can anyone help? I have updated my FC3 kernel and the nvidia kernel modules 7 times now with no problem. Then there is suddenly a new update for the nvidia driver and kernel module for it which should make everything just fine, but it just gets all screwed up.

To be more specific;
First I was notified by FC3 of multiple updates including kernel-module-nvidia-2.6.10-1.770_FC3, nvidia-glx, and nvidia-glx-devel for nvidia driver 1.0-7167.

I did not think about the possible need to download the driver first. I took it for granted that the module did not depend on the driver but the driver depended on the module. However, it would not install. I I got were dependencey errors as follows.
Immediately upon transaction check!________________________________________________________________________________

As stated. At this point, the 1-0.6629 driver still existed and I saw no reason for conflict since a module is just a module until it is activated. Nevertheless, i figured I would install the driver andf take things from there. So I did the necessary prep, getting out of x and such, then installed the nvidia driver update successfully. Prepared to adjust xorg, conf, but it was ok so I left it alone. Readjusted the inittab to get back to graphics mode and rebooted, but it would not allow me into x with the nvidia driver. So I allowed fc3 to config x without the nvidia driver and then tried to install teh nvidia module and such but it still would not allow me to do so and repeated the damn error,

which at this point is even more confusing and illogical since the nvidia installation procedure removed the 1.0.6629 driver completely.

SO, how do I make fc3 update nvidia? I truly do not understand the need to remove any of the old nvidia stuff, but if that is necessary how do I do that?

I surely hope someone can help me. FC3 and nvidia have been doing real well until now.

Question nvidia in fc3

I thank you for that uninstall info, which I will save in case I need it later. However, I ran into more problems with that nvidia update before I could even read your help.

I do not know what happened, but my effort to get rid of the nvidia update and just use the old nvidia 6629 somehow wiped out the glx. Thus, I suddenly was not able to get into fc3 at all. So I had to reinstall fc3.

Now I am in fc3 with the latest fc3 kernel 770. I hav enot installed the nvidia driver at all yet because I am a bit nervous about the problem I had before. Of course, since I do not have any nvidia driver at this stage I know there will not be a driver conflict, but I remember something that happened the first original time I ever install nvidia in fc3.

I wil explain and hopefully someone can give me some advice. Here goes!

When I first installed an nvidia driver in fc3 I had problems because it could not find or connect with glx. As such, it would not install and I did some research. in the research I discovered that livna-test or something like that was created modules, glx, and glx-development rpm pkgs for nvidia. So I did a yum search for nvidia and found pkgs for a 686 computer and install them. Then I had nvidia working beautifully.

At this point in time, I cannot remember if I somehow got the 6629 nvidia driver install to work for me before I used the fc3 nvidia rpm's or not and thus am being cautious with a new install of the latest 7167 nvidia installation. Let me further explain my current fears.

First, I hate having to constantly reinstall the entire operating system which is why I got rid of Mandrake and switchewd to FC3 to begin with. So now I am trying to be sure i do not fuck up again. However, my recent yum search for the fc3 nvidia pkgs shows a kernel-module-nvidia-2.6.10-1.770_FC3.i6 1.0.7167-0.lvn.3.3 and that is for a 686 computer, but the glx pkg is only nvidia-glx.i586 1.0.7167-0.lvn.1.3. So I am not sure of what to do.

I surely hope all of you will forgive me for most likely sounding quite naive if not a bit ridiculous, but should I use the normal nvidia driver installation or should I use the fc3 nvidia rpm installation? I am thinking there may be a problem with the glx because of there not being one specifically configured for my 686 computer. Would the latest 7167 nvidia driver automatically configure the glx or do I need to wait for the livna-testing people to create the nvida-glx.i686 rpm pkg?

Can anyone help me with this?
