Can not start lircd as service
 

I have installed FC6 and installed lirc from atrpms.net. When I run command "/sbin/chkconfig lircd on" and do a list it is turned on. If I run "/sbin/service lircd start" I do not get an ok, just a prompt. And if I run "/sbin/service lircd status" I get nothing just a prompt. I checked init.d and the lircd script is there. This is the first time I have experienced this with fedora. Other services work like mysql and httpd. Can someone give me some pointers?
