Can not mount cifs via fstab

falcom, I am encountering the same issue with NTFS mounts (pretty sure you meant ntfs-3g) and I am in the same boat as PreacherBill. The mounts are being brought up before the network interface is being brought up. How does one prioritize differently? I have so many mounts that it locks up my computer....

oops, didn't realize I hijacked the thread, but still am curious how to do this in fstab.

I tried no_netdev and _netdev.

Code:
//servername/c$               /samba/c                cifs   username=user,password=password,dir_mode=0777,noserverino,_netdev       0 0
I'm still not mounting before I boot; manual mounts after I load work fine though.

Is this the right implementation? I don't know if I should be moving all my fstab mounts to /rc.d/local as I'd prefer to keep them in /etc/fstab.

Hopefully this will also help the OP!

The format in the rc.local file would be same as if you were typing in the mount command in a terminal window.
You would still keep the OS mounts in your ftab i.e /,/boot swap etc.

But am I losing the line pasted above? Would that be relocated to rc.local?

How can I keep that in fstab with the _netdev directive?

I guess I'd like to consolidate rather than have mount commands all over the system.

punt, I've moved your posts to a new thread. A quick google found where other Fedora users had problems with _netdev but found no answer. Granted mounting your network shares in rc.local is a workaround but it is a simple fix.

You can leave the entry in the fstab but can add noauto option to keep from slowing the boot process. Adding a mount -a command in rc.local will mount the network shares since it is the last step in the boot process.

thanks Michael. Appreciated; didn't realize that the issues were vastly different. I'll look into this option, but at this point, it seems that reverting to Fedora 14 is the answer to all these issues!
