Question Can I install Fedora in my old laptop?

Hi everybody and thanks in advance!
I would like to install fedora in my laptop. The problem being that itīs 5 years old and I donīt know if itīll be able to manage it.

This are the characterstics:

Toshiba Satellite
Intel Pentium 2.2Ghz
240MB RAM
Intel Intelnall Graphics Controler 64MB
40GB Hard Disk

You I install an older version Fedora? Would this make any difference?
Are there any other distros that might be more suitable for my laptop capabilities?

Thank you very much!

Best bet is to download a LiveDVD/LiveCD and try it out. You will find out soon enough! I have Fedora 9 running nicely on a P-III / 1GHz laptop 512MB RAM, and a P-III / 666MHz desktop 386MB RAM.

You might also want to check out SimplyMEPIS, PCLinuxOS and Mandriva. Each have a different flavour (and IMHO, Fedora tastes best and works simplest, but each to his own). Try out a couple of LiveCDs to see which handles your older machine best.

Thanks webaware!

I don't think I will need a live dvd, as the laptop I am going to use is not the main I use and I don't mind installing the distro and uninstalling it in case I don't like it.

I will try Fedora 7-9 and see hoe it goes.
Thank you very much!

Don't bother with Fedora 7, go straight for 8 or 9 as the hardware integration is better on newer distros. If you can, perhaps you could try scrounge around for some more RAM for your PC, it will make any distro run better.

I have 4 computers running FC-9 here, two of them the older ones I mentioned above, and all work well (just needed to chase down a couple of driver issues on newer laptop).
