Can't play streaming Video

Hi all,

I have just install Realplayer 10 on my FC2 box and I can't play streaming video from any of the sites I have visited. I get audio but not the pictures. Any help please?

Thanks in advance,

Gordy

Realplayer has alway been kind of a hit or miss thing (usually a miss) mostly because of variations within their own formats which is too bad because I like the idea of Realplayer supporting Linux.

If I were you I would use mplayer over Realplayer since it supports Realplayer as well as many other formats including WMP and Quicktime. Just get the following RPMs from the mplayer web site http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html :
mencoder-1.0pre5-2.i386.rpm
mplayer-1.0pre5-2.i386.rpm
mplayer-codecs-essential-20040704-1.i386.rpm
mplayer-common-1.0pre5-2.i386.rpm

Then grab a copy of mplayerplug-in 2.66 or greater to allow Mozilla to use mplayer. You might be able to find an RPM some where or I can give you a spec file to make your own. http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/

What I found rather good for streaming was HelixPlayer [1]

Helix Player is Realplayer 10.

Quote:
The RealPlayer for Linux is built on top of the Helix Player for Linux and includes support for several non-open source components including RealAudio/RealVideo, MP3 etc.
Sort of like how Netscape => 6 are based on Mozilla. Personally I think every release of Mozilla is superior to Netscape so maybe the same is true with Helix over Realplayer. Again, mplayer will give you what Helix does and more.

If you hold out for Fedora Core 3: https://helixcommunity.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=143
