Can't play mp3 with amarok

I have gstreamer10, gstreamer-plugins-ugly and amarok installed
and I did a gst-inspect in the console

But in amarok I could not choose gstreamer engine, there is only helix engine option. I can't play any mp3 files.

Can anyone help?

I am not sure if you just want to play mp3 or specifictly want to play it with amarok(Viva amarok!)

If it's the first case, just make sure you have livna in your repo list then
#yum --enablerepo=livna install xmms xmms-mp3
will do the job.

If it's later, I am still quite noob on linux, but what I did was install mplayer, mplayer codec, xine, and amarok. Altough I have no idea what engine amarok is using, but apperantly it works for me.

That's correct - the current version of Amarok does not work with gstreamer. So, you do have gstreamer plugins as you said, and gstreamer can play mp3, but as Amarok doesn't have a backend (since gstreamer doesn't work now) that can play mp3 files, it's unable to do so (Amarok is just a front-end).

My advice: get xine to be the backend for Amarok, then get xine extra plugins. You'll need libxine and libxine-extracodecs, plus possible dependencies.

Also, either add the distribution you use to your profile or mention it in the first post - otherwise helping is more difficult. I've seen a lot of people asking about some problem in a distribution-specific forum, even if they don't have the distribution the forum is about. So, even if you post to Fedora subforum, don't just trust people know you're using Fedora - add it to your profile.

But..just get the xine packages I mentioned (you don't need xineui itself -- just the Xine engine and extracodecs for it to play mp3 - and other - files).

EDIT: and of course, as you figured out, after the installation you need to make sure that you define Xine as the engine for Amarok in Amarok's configuration.

You don't have to go through all this trouble. Just need to install the libxine1-ffmpeg plugin.
