Can't Change Icon Theme in GNOME with XGL...
I finally got XGL/Beryl running on my laptop (FC6 x86_64, fglrx) and it's quite stable, so far. The only problem is that, when running the XGL session (in GNOME), my icon theme defaults back to the Clearlooks theme and I have no control over it whatsoever; if I try to change it in the Themes window, I can click other icon themes, but no changes occur on my desktop. There might be other aspects of the theme I have lost control over to (i.e. fonts?) but I haven't tested that much yet. If I log out and then log into a non-XGL GNOME session, my icon theme goes back to whatever it was set to.
I have checked and DBUS is running (that's what "ps aux|grep dbus" suggests, anyway...). In fact, I've done a side-by-side comparison of the output of "ps aux" when running an an XGL session vs. running a non-XGL session and the only differences I see are in the extra Xgl process (which is to be expected) and the order of some of the processes. ~/.xsession_errors doesn't say anything that seems directly related to the issue, either. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks. |
For What It's Worth...
I've attached the output of "ps aux" to this post so that you can see what is running when I am logged in.
This is a normal, non-XGL GNOME session... Code:
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND Code:
USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND |
Ttt

Take a look at the script that starts up your xgl session, that is /usr/sbin/xgl-startgnome
For example, here's mine Code:
#!/bin/sh Code:
cookie="$(xauth -i nextract - :0 | cut -d ' ' -f 9)" I got this information from reading this howto here(note, scroll down to adding an xgl login session). I don't fully understand how this works, but my /usr/sbin/xgl-startgnome script has been working solidly for the past two weeks. |
You da man! That worked perfectly!
My script was generally identical, but the last three "critical" lines were simply "exec startgnome". I commented that and pasted the final three lines that you sent, and everything works great now. Thanks! |
