Can't boot with new kernel after update

I updated (using the up2date tool) my FC2 kernel from the default 2.6.5-1.358 to 2.6.8-1.521 and now I'm unable to boot after I get the error message:

irq 11: nobody cared! (screaming interrupt?)
irq 11: please try booting with acpi=off and report a bug
handlers: [<428662a5>] (ata_interrupt+0x0/0x1ee [libata])
Disabling IRQ #11

I found a similar issue brought up on bugzilla here and it may be related to the USB 2.0 on my A7N8X Deluxe or the USB 2.0 card that I have installed. My BIOS also tells me that there is a Network controller, Multimedia device, USB 1.0/1.1 OHCI, USB 2.0 EHCI, Simple Comm. Controller, and RAID Controller.

I'm kind-of a Linux n00b, so reply in simple terms please.

Yeah the 358 works just fine. No error messages on startup, either.
